We are happy to announce our new location - same building but on the lower level where the police department was. We were gifted with donations and grants to help with the expense of renovation.  We also want to thank all who helped move us and the Village for giving us a new home.  Our clients so far love it!

About

About

Vision
OUR

Our vision globally is that we envision communities in which everyone has access to sufficient nutritious food on a regular basis. Locally we envision offering sufficient nutritious food on a regular basis to our guests.

Mission
OUR

Our mission is to provide a source of good healthy food.  The EFB also serves as an emergency food basket and also provides information about other resources available to individuals per their needs.

The Elizabeth Food Basket was formed in 1997 due to an infant death from lack of nourishment.  The Mayor at the time along with the EMTs, Scout leaders, village volunteers, and Jack and Jeannette Graves decided that this kind of situation should never happen. So with limited funds to start, the group initiated the Elizabeth Food Basket.

The Elizabeth Food Basket has been sustained by the gracious contributions of food items from the local area churches, individuals and monetary donations from various sources.  A year ago we realized that our "founders" had sustained the basket quite a bit independently and we found ourselves at an impasse and had to make a major decision that to join River Bend Food Bank in Davenport and St. Stephens in Dubuque we needed to become a 501(c)(3).  We were struggling financially and serving more families so the United Methodist Church of Elizabeth adopted us temporarily so we could purchase food items discounted from River Bend and St. Stephen's.  Then our mission was blessed and a lawyer and his staff, Steven A. Cox and Karen Dittmar, donated time to pursue our own 501.  June marked our "official" government standing as a nonprofit charitable organization.

We continue to seek food item donations, monetary donations, and participate in fundraising activities to sustain our service which reaches a monthly average of 60 plus families which translates up to 170 plus individuals.

The Elizabeth Food Basket is also blessed with support from the Village of Elizabeth who offers a "home" in which we serve our guests, the Chamber who helps us with community connections, and our 22 volunteers. But we are also thanksul for all those who donate food items and monetary support.
